The big problem with Google’s Adsense is that quite often website owners think that more is better. More adsense means more chances of clicks. How very wrong this is!

If you read the Adsense guidelines you will read that you can put 3 content blocks, search blocks and more all onto one page. And you are encouraged to put on as many locks of different varieties as you can fit. But, this can be a massive disaster! It is not true that by putting more Adsense blocks around your blog that you will automatically be able to earn more income. In fact, the opposite can become true.

One great big advert
What happens is that if your blog contains too much advertising it will look like a huge advert. Blogs depend on readers for their lifeline and need plenty of them. And this means that readers need to be reading multiple pages, subscribing to newsletters and RSS feeds and coming back time and time again. And a visitor will only become a regular reader of you blog if they like it and trust it.

And that is the problem of a blog that is a huge advert – you instantly lose the trust of the people who are visiting it and they might never come back.

What is the answer?
In fact, with careful planning you can really make a huge blogging income from Adsense with just a single block of adverts. Place a single block of adverts well and you can really make the most of the adverts that Google displays for you, without having to look like a huge advertising board.

The rule of thumb
A good rule of thumb to work to is to have no more than two areas of advertising on your website, Each can contain a few adverts, maybe a mixture of Adsense and affiliate banners, but do not dedicate more than this to advertising. This will leave your visitors feeling comfortable with your website.

Make the most of the space you have
But this will only work best with a litle care and attention. I know from experience that when I moved my adverts from the right hand column to across the top my click through rate increased drastically. So you need to put your main adverts where people will see them. That varies depending on your layout, but will typically include:

• in or next to main navigation
• across the top and left of the screen
• sometimes, within the content of your posts

Make it work for you
What will work the best for you? Unfortunately, there is no clear and sharp rule as to what will work best. However, there is plenty of evidence that too much will scare off visitors and reduce your click through rate.

The only way to see what works for you is to give it a go. Change your blog about and try different combinations, whilst watching your click through rate and how many pages visitors are reading on average.

Don’t let too much Adsense ruin your blog!

Some people think that pre written Adsense blogs are a great money spinner. But to be honest, they are not and if you want to run a blog the easy way, you still can. Why are they so bad and what is the alternative?

You have probably seen plenty of the adverts offering you a complete blog with a variety of themes to choose from along with loads of content. It sounds like a great offer and an easy way to make some extra cash, but it is far from that. The main problem is that the content you are publishing is duplicate. You and loads of other blog owners are hosting the same material and the theme might even have a link back to the seller’s website, just to make sure they get the benefit of your work.

All of this duplicated content is picked up by the search engines and they quickly notice the plethora of blogs displaying the same articles. And when the search engines apply their filters, you are left without any traffic on your website. So, what is the alternative for the automated blog?

The alternative that works
Well you are left doing a lot of the work yourself, but even with an off the shelf package, that was still the case. In either case you are left trying to optimise the website and getting more traffic onto the website, the only difference is now you also need to provide some content.

But that is not all that difficult. There are plenty of systems that you can sign up to and be sent plenty of free guest posts to publish on your blog, maybe even automatically publishing them. Some systems will even send you multiple posts per day, so you quickly build up a huge stock of fresh content on a day by day basis.

And best of all, these posts are unique and written specially for your blog. You are not at risk of being found to be hosting duplicate content and the penalties that go with it. And all that these guest bloggers require is a couple of links back to their blog.

Why do they do this?
In return the guest bloggers want some “link juice” and maybe some traffic. They want to be placing their posts on blogs that have some sort of Google PageRank and some relevant traffic. So you really do need to build both of these to get the best results, but there are still guest blogging sites that will provide you with plenty of posts, for free, even if you are a brand new blog.

So do not pay for a pre written Adsense Blog. Just set up a simple WordPress site with a theme of your choice and then sign up to publish guest posts. Much more effective!

Filling your website with plenty of Adsense blocks might seem to be the easiest way of making a lot of money through clicks, but too much Adsense can quickly become a bad idea. When is too much just too much for your blog and when should you reduce your Adsense blocks?

As a newcomer to Adsense it is easy to fall for the trick of putting every available advertising block onto your blog. You could go for the maximum – three large content blocks, three link blocks and a search box. But once you fit these to your screen, no doubt along with some other money making schemes such as affiliate links and paid adverts, your blog screams out that it is just there to turn your visitors into cash.

This means that they are likely to not have confidence in your blog and may even just hit the back button straight away, without even reading it. The initial impression is not that of a professional site but that of a blogger desperate to make a quick buck.

How many is not too many?
So too many blocks of adverts will put readers straight off your site and reduce your visitor rate and thereby reduce your income. But, how many can you get away with?

The secret is to use the available space well. Typically you will find that two blocks of advertising will fit in with a blog layout and leave it still looking professional. And whilst this might not sound much, you really can get away with a lot of adverts in this space.

Successful placement
Remember that the people most likely to click on advertising are not those that are avid readers. If someone gets to the base of a post they are more likely to either go back to a search engine and start a new search, happy that they have found what they wanted, or better still browse your website for something new.

Those that are likely to click on adverts are still looking at the top part of the page. They might not even have scrolled down yet. So include your two blocks there. Maybe one at the top of the post and one in your side bar navigation.

1 Adsense unit does not have to be 1 advertising block
But a block does not mean 1 Adsense unit. If the shape suits better, use 2 or 3 units to form the block. I regularly use 3 small units together to form 1 simple advert block.

Anything more than these two blocks will be likely to look ugly and scream out that you are just interested in your audience for their income potential. You will lose their faith in you. So don’t go to the maximum allowed adverts, just fit in 1 or two blocks of adverts that will catch their eyes and be useful. But you can also use the Google search function and Adsense in your RSS Feed if you want more opportunities.

The Essentials Of An Adsense Blog

It might sound simple to set up an Adsense Blog, but, what do you need to include on a blog if you want to start earning money from it? Adding adsense in itself is easy, but a few little extra ideas can help you to make more from your blog.
By Keith Lunt, ©howtostartmyblog.com

Essential 1 – Adsense Blocks!
Obviously, stating the obvious, the first essential is the actual Google Adsense adverts. But, where do you put them and how many do you use?

With this system you can place 3 content units, 3 link units and a search function on each and every page. And surely if you put all of this in place then you are more likely to get lots of clicks on the adverts and earn far higher commissions? Wrong!

In fact it is better to keep all of your advertising blocks down to just 2 locations. Now one location might have 2 or 3 small content adds neatly placed together, if that is what you prefer, but limit the number of locations to just one or two around the page.

Why? Well too many adverts on the page will scare away visitors and make them more likely to press the back button than to read the page and click an advert. To get the best click through rates just position a couple of adverts in good positions without frightening your readers. Within your navigation and at the top of posts are usually good positions where a lot of readers will see.

Essential 2 – Adsense in your RSS
If you have not already done so, go to Feedburner and convert your RSS feed to their system. It is easy to do and they provide full instructions for most platforms. Use Feedburner gives you access to plenty of statistics, but better still with a few clicks you can quickly add adsense to your RSS feeds. Not a huge money spinner, but it adds to the end payment!

Essential 3 – Lots of content
If you do not have plenty of interesting content, why would search engines send you lots of visitors every day? Post to your blog at least a few times per week and make the posts original and interesting. You are writing the bait to get people onto your blog. So make your posts good!

Essential 4 – Lots of good navigation
List your recent posts on your home page and these will automatically be read by the search engines. But use the navigation space on the side bar for listing your most popular posts to keep the search engines interested in those posts getting most readers. Also, if someone reads to the bottom of the post then give them related posts to read and keep them on your site, they might then click on an advert on the next post.

So the essentials are quite simple: use a couple of advert blocks, but not too many; include Adsense in your RSS feed; post often and make it easy to navigate around your blog.

Setting Up An Adsense Blog

Setting up an Adsense blog can be both fun and rewarding, as you earn from your venture. Get it right and you can be making a lot of cash. But, what is involved and what must you do to start earning this extra cash?

There are only four simple steps to creating an Adsense blog and they are:

1) Create a simple blog
2) Add Adsense to it
3) Start blogging
4) Promote your work

Create a simple blog
There are many free blog tools on the internet and if you are wanting to start a simple Adsense blog and it is your first venture into blogging, why not make everything as simple as possible and totally free? And for this just go over to blogger.com and create an account there. Choose a name for your blog and you are up and running. If you are hapy to invest a bit of cash then purchasing your own domain name is a good idea, but that does not cost much.

Add Adsense
The whole key to an Adsense blog is the actual adverts and the reason for choosing Blogger is that you can add blogs with just a few simple clicks. Even signing up to Adsense is easy if you have not already done so through the links provided.

But don’t fall to the temptation of adding too many adverts. Two advertising blocks is sufficient in any blog – any more and your site can look like an advertising board, rather than a respectable website. But choose your advert areas carefully and place them where they will be seen easily.

Start blogging
You can’t have a blog without blogging so start writing! Pick a topic that you are confident about writing about and make sure that you are posting a few times per week. The more posts you have the more interest the search engines will take in your blog and the more chances there are of a search term matching something that you have already written about. So building a library of posts by adding a few a week is a good way to go.

Promote your blog
Once you have everything else sorted it is time to try to get search engine visitors, and other visitors, over to your website.

And the best way to do all of this is to start syndicating your content. You can use your best posts or write posts specifically for this purpose and then use tools to submit these posts as guest posts and submit them to the best article directories. Also try leaving sensible comments on other people’s blogs.

All of this is aimed at getting the readers on to your website for immediate traffic, whilst the links back to your website will help your search engine rankings.

So that’s it! Go over to Blogger and create a free blog; add an Adsense block or two to the site; start writing lots of interesting posts and get promoting your blog through guest blogging, blog commenting and writing articles. What could be simpler?

Out of all of the methods of making a bit of cash through blogging, which are the three that I would keep above all others? Well, it’s an easy answer, but ask me again in a month and I could just have changed my mind!

Indeed, what I favour today for making cash could well be in my pile of wastes of time in a year, month or even a year. However, I still feel these are a good three to stick with.

Google’s Adsense – an easy and simple way to make some cash, if you have plenty of traffic to your blog and better still if your topic is highly profitable. Hobby blogs might not have lots of high paying keywords, whereas finance and a lot of other categories could have keywords that pay very well. If there is a lot of PPC adverts on suitable search terms, then there is probably a lot of value in the adverts.

But it is very simple to use – install the adverts in a block or two and as long as you have high traffic levels, there should be a little income. However, it is not quite as simple as this. If your high traffic is regular readers, then you might not earn that much, the best comes from one off readers!

PayPerPost – probably my favourite paid to post system. Add your blog and wait for advertisers to open opportunities to you. You set your prices and with each paid post that you create your account slowly accrues payments. As with all paid to post systems, you can end up writing a lot of off topic posts as if you turn down to high a percentage of opportunities, you will stop seeing any opportunities being open to you.

What I don’t like is that the advertisers individually set down the rules as to how many words they want and so on. They might have paid for 30 words, but if they insist of 250 then that is what you have to do. They can also unfairly reject posts, however that is very rare.

BlogDistributor – a new system and one that is growing and needs to grow! These are very strict on blog quality – both existing posts and what you write for them – so a lot of non native English speakers will not be approved. Posts are checked by their team, which should mean consistency, but not always!

However, they pay well and because the approvals is by the team, rather than the advertisers, you quickly learn more about what they expect and it is generally a lot fairer approval process.
